Today we will look at the preparation of the monkey birthday cake which resembles a monkey head.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • cake mix (should bake yellow cake)
  • tin for baking muffins
  • one baking cup
  • bowl of glass
  • skewer (wooden) – 1
  • serrated knife
  • one platter for serving
  • pastry brush – 1
  • wax paper
  • chocolate icing – 2 containers
  • wooden spatula
  • banana
  • some toothpicks
  • handful of peanut butter
  • chocolate candy
  • food coloring
  • licorice

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Using the cake mix, prepare one box of the cake mix by reading the instructions printed on the back. The cake mix should be yellow. As mentioned on the box, preheat the oven accordingly.
  2. Take a muffin tin and fill it to around 3/4th of the capacity with the cake mix. Pour the remaining mix into a bowl. Grease the bowl before pouring the cake mix into it.
  3. Place both the cupcake and the cake itself in the oven. Generally, a cupcake takes anywhere between 25-30 minutes to cook and the cake takes around 35-40 minutes to cook. To test the readiness, you can use the wooden skewer. Insert the skewer into the middle of the cake and the cupcake and if it comes out clean, your cake is done!
  4. After removing from the oven, let it cool down for some time. Remove both the cake and cupcake from the respective containers and let them cool completely before you proceed further.
  5. Use the knife to separate the cupcake vertically in half in order to get 2 semi circles.
  6. Place the cake on the serving platter with the flat side facing down. Cut it horizontally so as to have 2 layers. Place the top section to the side for now.
  7. Use the chocolate icing to get a layer on the top surface of the cake. Here, the spatula comes in handy to evenly distribute the icing. Place banana pieces on top of this layer.
  8. Now place the dome shaped layer of the cake which we kept aside on top of the icing laced layer.
  9. To get the eyes of the monkey, place the 2 cupcake semi circles on their flat sides facing downwards. If you really want them to stick, you can attach toothpicks to both the cupcake and the cake and then place the cupcake on the cake.
  10. Now keep the cake for some time in the refrigerator so that the icing hardens a bit.
  11. Meanwhile, take some peanut butter and mix it thoroughly. This loosens it up. Then take a pastry bag and place all the peanut butter inside. Make a small incision on one side of the pastry bag and use this to make the nose and the mouth.
  12. Chocolate candies can form the eyes and licorice can form the nostrils.
  13. There you go; your monkey cake is ready!
