For Windows 95

  1. Restart your PC by clicking on the shut down button and then clicking on restart.
  2. When the system restarts then, look for the Starting Windows 95 Message as soon as you see this click F8.
  3. Now you’ll be taken to the start up menu look for the number that is mentioned for the safe mode option. If you can’t find it then press F5. If there is a problem then restart the Pc again and follow these steps.
  4. Once you are logged in to your PC you’ll see your desktop with safe mode written now make the required repairs and once you are done restart your computer and let it boot normally.

For Windows 98 or ME

  1. Restart your PC. When your system restarts then hold down the Ctrl key or the F8 key
  2. Now press F5 or type the number for the safe mode option
  3. Wait till your desktop appears and then make the necessary repair. After you finish doing the repairs then you can restart your system and let it boot normally.

For Windows 2000

  1. Restart the computer and look out for options of advanced start up or troubleshooting and then press F8.
  2. You have to be quick to press the F8 that appears on the screen before the message fades out.
  3. Now type the safe mode number from the Windows start up menu and look for the desktop to appear and make the repairs and restart your PC after you are done.

For Windows XP or Vista

  1. Restart your system in the usual way when you reach the progress bar once the system restarts press F8 immediately before the process end.
  2. Now from the Windows start up menu look for the Safe Mode, which will be highlighted check for this and press enter.
  3. Your desktop will load and you can make the repairs and again restart your PC in the normal mode.
