How to Install Drupal through Cpanel

Drupal is an open source Content Management System (CMS). It is based on PHP and licensed by GNU General Public License. Drupal can be used for all kinds of websites including blogs, small business website, corporate website and political website.

Drupal contain all the basic features that a Content Management System has. Administrator can register and maintain different user account in their Drupal site. Drupal also support RSS feeds. It can be customized to meet your local needs. Drupal can be used as a blog by a single author or multiple authors. It can be used as a discussion board that provides user generated content.

Drupal was designed such that new features can be added to extend its functionality. This is done via plugin modules which are contributed by developers. Users of Drupal do not need to have any programming knowledge. Drupal requires basic installation and administration.

Drupal was initially developed by Dries Buytaert. The name of Drupal was initially taken from Drop.org. At first, Dries Buytaert wanted to name it dorp but later change it to Drupal dues to a typing mistake it make when checking the domain.

Since the first release, Drupal has been gaining popularity. Drupal now is used by more than 1.4 million websites. There are many popular brand names and charity organizations that uses Drupal for their website. Drupal had received a number of Packt Open Source CMS Awards.

If you want to install Drupal through cPanel, follow the instructions below:

Procedure:

1.  On the homepage of your cPanel, click on the Fantastico icon. This will take you to the home page of Fantastico.

2.  Click on Drupal in the Content Management section on the left Navigation bar.

3.  Click on New Installation.

4.  Select the domain on which you want to install Drupal from the Install on domain drop down menu.

5.  If you want to install Drupal in the root directory of the domain, leave the Install in directory text box empty. If you want to install Drupal in a directory, enter the directory name. This directory should not be existed. It will be automatically created.

6.  Enter a username in the Administrator-username text box. You need this to enter the Drupal administration area.

7.  Enter a password in the Password text box. You need this to enter the Drupal administration area.

8.  Enter an email address in the Admin e-mail text box. All Drupal notifications will be sent to this email address.

9.  When you are done, click the Install Drupal button.

10. Click the Finish Installation button.

11. Drupal is now successfully installed.
